The season comes to a close as deciduous trees lose their leaves and citrus fruit begins to take on color. Good maintenance during the winter season helps to stem the tide of disease and pests that can plague a garden. Remove debris as it accumulates. Planting annuals and bulbs is still an option and will provide color throughout winter and into spring. Our first freeze appears in November so be prepared with light coverings to protect sensitive plant materials.
Water harvesting is a great way to reduce water consumption in gardens, landscaping, and even pools. Silverbell Nursery now sells and installs water harvesting systems, stocking molded plastic sizes from 55 gallons to 2,600 gallons. We also stock, and have available, alluminium culverts from 3-10 feet in diameter. These collection tanks can be integrated into drip systems and even auto-fills for ponds and pools. Rain water has vital minerals and nutrients for plants that are filtered out through city water; collecting your own rain water and using it in gardening or landscaping acts as some of the best fertilizer for your plants!
